Egg Donation

How do we do it

We know that this is not an easy situation and trust plays a very important role in this process. Because we have three steps that help our patients make better decisions from the beginning, minimizing risks and costs, without creating false expectations. This protocol allows people who have trusted us to become happy moms, dads and families.

In what cases are indicated?

Egg donation with partner's semen

  • In women with menopausal ovarian failure, early ovarian failure, or ovarian surgery.
  • In women who cannot use their own oocytes, due to poor quality or hereditary diseases that cannot be detected by PGT techniques.
  • In women with repeated failures in IVF or ICSI due to low response or poor oocyte quality.
  • In women with ovaries inaccessible to obtain oocytes. This indication is very rare.
  • In women over 43 with menstrual cycle.

Egg donation with semen donor

  • In males with no sperm.
  • In male carriers of a genetic disease that cannot be studied in embryos or carriers of a sexually transmitted disease.
  • When chromosomal abnormalities are found in semen.
  • In single women.

Egg Donation Procedures

The egg donor woman must undergo ovarian stimulation treatment in order to obtain the eggs. On the other hand, the recipient of the oocyte donation must prepare her endometrium so that it is receptive to receive the embryos.

First visit

Carrying out an oocyte donation treatment is a very important decision and must be taken with all the information. That is why the doctor responsible for your case will explain in detail the possible alternatives and the most relevant aspects of said treatment.

Preparation of the endometrial cavity to receive the embryo

A lot of research has been done on thickness endometrial optimal to achieve implantation. Generally, values of 7 to 10 mm are considered good for embryos to implant. Values below 6 mm are of poor prognosis, since they are related to implantation failure.

Selection of the appropriate egg donor

Aware of the great responsibility of the trust placed in our team, we began a strict selection of the egg donor compatible with the physical characteristics and blood-Rh group of the recipient patient, to guarantee the highest quality and maximum results for our patients. After passing a strict analysis: the psychological study, gynecological, genetic medical tests and giving the corresponding results

Collection of the oocytes from the egg donor

Once the optimum moment is reached, the oocytes are collected from the egg donor in the operating room under sedation. At the Bernabeu Institute we guarantee our egg donation patients a minimum of 8 mature oocytes.

Semen training and preparation

The man will give the semen sample the same day of the donation / devitrification of the oocytes, after a period of sexual abstinence of 2 to 5 days and it is prepared in the laboratory in order to eliminate certain components and select the most appropriate sperm to fertilize the donated eggs. Semen can also be cryopreserved prior to donation, and the day that there is a compatible donor, the previously frozen sample will be used.

Pharmacotherapy

At the time the appropriate donor is found for the particular case, patients will be notified well in advance to proceed with the oocyte fertilization. This can be fresh, that is, at the same time that the donor is stimulated, the recipient is preparing her endometrium; or deferred if the oocytes come from a bank.

Fertilization and Transfer

Fertilization occurs by bringing sperm and oocytes into contact using the In Vitro Fertilization or Intracytoplasmic Injection (ICSI). Once fertilization of the embryos occurs, they remain in the in vitro fertilization laboratory until transfer. Once fertilization is achieved and after 5 days of culture, the embryo is selected to be introduced into the woman's uterus. The appropriate moment for said transfer, as well as the number of embryos to be transferred, will be determined by the doctors according to the couple's history, the number and characteristics of the embryos obtained and the particular circumstances of the current cycle of treatment. However, IVI is increasingly betting on the single embryo transfer or SET, in which only a single embryo is transferred.

Treatments
